Rs 300 crore riding on Shahrukh Khan

Bollywood News: After Bollywood Flicks like Kites and Raavan, which were high on star quotient, failed to do well at the expectant box office this year, all eyes are now on Bollywood’s King Shahrukh Khan. According to Bollywood critics, A whopping amount of Rs 300 crore is riding on his shoulders! The buzz in the trade is that Reliance Big Pictures has bought the rights.
A leading distributor says, “Shah Rukh rocks. He is still one of the top three stars in this country. His film guarantees good returns. Yes, Reliance Big Pictures has bought Don 2 for an amount which is definitely more than Rs 100 crore. But I think that Shah Rukh’s deal with Eros International on Ra.One could be a funding proposal, which implies that Shah Rukh can still sell the film to other buyers.”
Phew! That’s a lot of money riding on one single man, imagine the pressure!

Aashayein - Movie Review

AashayeinNagesh Kukunoor is best known for his films that talks about life. ‘Iqbal’ and ‘Dor’ are some milestones in his career which was liked by the audience. People like Nagesh's offering because it touches the sensitive chord of life and with a desire to taste something similar like his last outings; they stepped to the theatres to watch ‘Aashayein’. But what they find is absolute disappointing. ‘Aashayein’ speaks about what a person goes though when he knows that only few days are left to survive. The film lacks in execution and hence could not impress the audience. Some story sounds good when it is only read in books rather then converting it into films and ‘Aashyein’ falls in this category.
It is a story of a gambler who lives life of his own and happy with his girlfriend. But the day when he wins a huge jackpot, he came to know the dark truth of his life that he has only counted days left to survive. How he fought against his destiny and managed to live the left out days of his life happily is what ‘Aashyein’ is all about.
Rahul (John Abraham) is a compulsive gambler who can put the earnings of his lifetime in a single bet. In one fortunate day, he won a jackpot of Rs. 3 crore and the same night he threw a grand bash. When he went to propose his girlfriend Nafisa (Sonal Sehgal), he collapsed. He was diagnosed with lung cancer. Knowing this dark truth, Rahul was heartbroken. One day in the middle of the night, he left the city leaving behind a large sum of money for Nafisa.
Rahul went to a hospice in Pondicherry and gave some amount of money to the home and decided to live the rest of his life there. The people he met there boost up his confidence and he was highly impressed to see their self assurance. There he met with a retired banker, G. Parthasarthi (Girish Karnad) who lost speech but even has the strength to face life. Another inspiring character, he met there is a middle-aged, high class, ex-prostitute, Madhu (Farida Jalal) who is an AIDS survival but has got all the spirit to live boldly in society. Another high spirited personality that he met is a 17 yr old cancer patient, Padma (Anaitha Nair) and another survival is Govinda (Ashwin Chitale) who has a passion for comics and possesses spiritual powers.
How those lives inspired Rahul to live in a new way forms the rest of the story.
Salim-Sulaiman’s music is soothing. Very calm and goes very well with the script. This time Nagesh Kukunoor fails to do justice to the script. There is not any emotions and thrill that could appeal the audience.
Speaking about performances, John Abraham has performed the intense role very well. Sonal Sehgal was just fine. Girish Karnad was as well superb. Farida Jalal played his role with full perfection. Anaitha Nair, Ashwin Chitale was just ok.
In the nutshell, the film lacks the appealing element. Execution was poor which one did not accept from Nagesh Kukunoor. Leave the mass, even the multiplex audience won’t be lure towards the film.

The tale of Sonakshi Sinha’s Fat to Fit Body

Bollywood Gossip: You could define it as the Sonakshi/Sonam syndrome. And it’s making itself amply evident across the world including India, among young girls shedding their extra kilos to sport a svelte figure.

Sonakshi Sinha the lead actress in the bollywood blockbuster “Dabangg” is a far cry from the plump girl that she was till only a year ago. According to some Bollywood reports, Sonakshi Sinha was around 30 kgs overweight before she made her big screen debut into the Bollywood Industry. Anil Kapoor’s Daughter Bollywood Star Sonam Kapoor too is reported to have been some 90 kgs before she debuted in “Saawariya”. From overweight adolescents to fab figure femmes, these actresses exemplify an increasing trend among young girls. Isnt that great???

According to one of the country’s obesity consultant and practising dietitian Deepika Bhalla, the frequency with which she comes across such cases of young girls wanting to lose weight is alarming. “Girls who’re happy being plump in school suddenly become conscious of their looks when they turn 16 or 18. And since that’s the time when their college life also begins, they’re at pains to look their best. There is also a great deal of peer pressure to look better than your friends,” says Deepika Bhalla, adding, “And the advantage in these times is that you can lose weight pretty quickly, thanks to our medical science that all the treatments, diets and advice available in the market.”

While losing excess weight is a good thing, as perhaps may be the case with Sonakshi Sinha, trying to get a Perfect 10 figure overnight is a dangerous trend, warn experts. According to clinical psychologist and psychotherapist Varkha Chulani, “The size zero like Kareena Kapoor flaunts attracts girls towards equating beauty with the kind of figure they have. And they start believing that they need to have a perfect figure to look great. This results in over-exercising and going under the knife, which jeopardizes their body.”

For Ranbir country comes before films!

view ANJAANA ANJAANI videos

The decision to postpone Sajid Nadiadwala's ANJAANA ANJAANI had come in for a lot of criticism from quite a few segments of the industry and especially from those who got affected directly or indirectly by this sudden shift, leading to more reshuffling of upcoming films.

For the few who are not aware, Ranbir-Priyanka's ANJAANA ANJAANI was supposed to hit the theaters last Friday that is, 24th September. However a last minute decision to postpone the film due to the Ayodhya court verdict had the trade and distribution circle in turmoil. To add insult to the injury this decision came to notts as the Ayodhya verdict was itself delayed!

The lead actor of ANJAANA ANJAANI, Bollywood's newest superstar Ranbir Kapoor, who in a way was one of the decision makers, has a different take on the subject. The actor feels that the decision to postpone the film was right as he did not feel comfortable on releasing his film when the country was going through so much tension and uncertainty over the verdict. Ranbir says in an interview that a film is never above the country as for him country comes first and everything else later and the happiness and safety of its people should be of prime concern for all the stars and not just him.

Good to hear such profound thoughts from the latest superstar!

The highpoint of ANJAANA ANJAANI

If the makers of ANJAANA ANJAANI are to be believed, they are putting their money till the last minute of the film. Well, literally. As per those who have had a dekko at the film, it's the penultimate 20 minutes that take the film to an all time high.

Quiz director Siddharth Anand about this and he doesn't deny the fact, "See, for me the entire movie is a highlight in itself. I am attached to every single frame. But then yes, the entire pre-climax and climax have been dealt with special care because audience do expect something spectacular around this time. This is why you would see a double twist in the end."

view ANJAANA ANJAANI videos
While Siddharth is refusing to divulge anything more at this point in time, a source informs, "You may think that the film's climax is arriving and are pretty much sure about what would happen next. However, there is a further twist in the tale and the way the story ends is something which is absolutely new and original. The culmination of two principal characters - Ranbir and Priyanka - is completely different from what you would have seen earlier.

Raima Sen says she doesnt like wearing bikinis

Bollywood Gossip: Bollywood actress Raima Sen, who has made a name for herself in the Bengali film industry as well as Bollywood with her offbeat roles, says she is ready to don a bikini on the silver screen if she finds the script of the movie fantabulous and demands her to go for it.

“I don’t like to wear a bikini on screen. I thank god that till date I haven’t got such roles where I need to wear a bikini because I don’t think wearing one will add glamour to the role, ” Raima, 30, told in a recent interview.

“But if a script comes to me and if it’s really a very, very good script and the role demands, then it’s okay wearing a bikini, ” said the star of such films as “Chokher Bali” and “Parineeta”.

Raima comes from an illustrious Bengali film family – her grandmother, legendary actress Suchitra Sen, was one of the most sought after in Bengali as well as Hindi movies. And her mother Moon Moon Sen was a yesteryear sex symbol. Her sister Riya too is active in Hindi movies.

Best known in the industry for her innocent and girl-next-door looks, Raima‘s beauty has often been compared to that of her grandmother’s.

“I feel honoured when people compare my looks with those of my grandmother, ” she said.

Raima made her debut in the film industry with a small role in the critically acclaimed Hindi movie “Godmother” in 1999. But her acting skills were overshadowed by the presence of Shabana Azmi who was the main protagonist.

She is open to all kinds of roles and is very keen to feature in period films.

Raima Sen is currently enjoying her new role as a judge on the kid’s dance reality show “Twinkle Twinkle Dancing Stars” on Bengali entertainment channel Mahuaa Bangla, but says her heart lies in acting.

“Yes, I am enjoying my new role as a judge of this dance reality show of kids. It’s a different thing altogether. But I must say one thing – my passion is acting.”

This is the first time Raima Sen is judging a reality show.

Lafangey Parindey - Movie Review

Lafangey ParindeyThe real taste of Mumbai lies in its gali and mohalla, in its tapori language, local train, Mumbai’s chawl where several families reside in one small room. In those gallis of Mumbai, there are people who dream to become big. They desire to touch the sky despite knowing the hard truth that they have little under their arms. ‘Lafangey Parindey’ is the story of two unlikely people who in spite of shortcomings, fight against their destiny and work hard towards their goal.

Director Pradeep Sarkar lifted those rawness of Mumbai in his film. His effort was remarkable. What is more striking about ‘Lafangey Parindey’ is Sarkar’s choice of the subject. One won’t expect the man who made ‘Parineeta’ and ‘Laga Chunari Mein Daag’ will come up with a subject totally different from his usual approach. The film was widely promoted and to a great extent able to live up to the expectation level of the audience. Two beautiful faces complimented each other. Neil Nitin Mukesh and Deepika Padukone was looking awesome and blaze the silver screen.
Set in Mumbai mohallas, ‘Lafangey Parindey’ speaks about two high spirited souls, one is a fighter and other is a dancer. One shot Nandu (Neil Nitin Mukesh) is a boxer, he fights blindfolded and works for Usmaan bhai (Piyush Mishra) for his betting games. He has few tapori friends with whom Nandu roams. He dreams of making big in the underworld gang. Pinky Palkar (Deepika Padukone ) is a skater, dancer and wanted to become a successful dancer someday. But unfortunate struck one day and Pinky met with an accident. She lost her eyes but Pinky did not lose heart and was focused on her goal.
Circumstances made Pinky and Nandu cross each other’s path. Both helped one another to achieve their goal. They made their drawbacks their strength.
The USP of the film is that Pradeep Sarkar has told the story in simple way. The film is a blend of comedy, tragedy, action and above all it is musical. The rough and tough world of Nandu and the beautiful, simple life of Pinky is picturized marvelously.
Speaking about performances, Neil as Nandu and Deepika as Pinky really suits. Both gets embedded into their individual character and performed exceptionally well. With every passing film, Deepika flourished as an actress. Neil too performed superbly. Kay Kay Memon was fine. The other stars of the film has also beautifully portrayed their role.
In the nutshell, ‘Lafangey Parindey’ is entertaining and engrossing. Though the film is low on emotions, some minute instances make it a treat to watch. Enjoy the film with a cola on one hand and popcorn on the other.

We Are Family - Movie Review

We Are FamilyKaran Johar’s film is said to be larger than life. His film includes every ingredients of life. ‘We Are Family’ is also high on emotions and humor. The film has some interesting scenes that grab the interest of the audience. Starting from the promos to the whole picture, everything is so beautifully executed that one can’t take their eyes and mind from the film. He makes his character looks beautiful and also extracts the best from them. The characters of his film are top-grade in style and substance.
‘We Are Family’ speaks about two women in an extraordinary situation. Two women comesin the life of a man in different stage of life. They can't stand each other but finally, a situation arrives when one has to give her most precious possession to the woman whom she can’t tolerate at all. Adapted from famous Hollywood blockbuster ‘Stepmom’, the Indian version is no way less than the western version. Dharma Productions film are high in content and never passes away without creating an impression in audience mind. Same is true for ‘We are family’. Kajol in the role of Susan Sarandon and Kareena Kapoor as Julia Roberts rocks.
Maya (Kajol) and Shreya (Kareena Kapoor) are two different women. Maya is a perfect mother. Her world is her three children Aleya (Aanchal Munjal), Ankush (Nominath Ginsberg) and Anjali (Diya Sonecha). Her day starts and ends with them. Maya separated from her husband Aman (Arjun Rampal) but she ensures that her children never feels the need of a father and she feels up the vacant space of Aman.
Everything was running smoothly until Shreya came into the picture. Shreya was exactly opposite to Maya. Shreya is a career oriented woman. But circumstances brought Shreya, Maya and Arjun under one roof. Maya was diagnosed with a dreaded disease and Shreya became Maya’s helping hand. She takes the place of Maya and helps to manage her home and the three children. At first, the children did not accept their second mom and called her witch but slowly things changed and everything fall in place.
Director Siddharth P Malhotra showed his excellence in picturising some scene. For instances, Maya’s dealing with her children, Maya and Shreya’s heated argument, how Maya struggles with her disease within herself and how he faces her end was beautifully projected.
Mohanan's cinematography is striking and the exotic locales of Australia is eye-catching. Niranjan Iyengar's dialogue is real and very catchy. The background score by Raju Singh is top-notch. What disappoints is the music of the film. This time Shankar-Eshaan-Loy fails to impress his audience. Such poor music is not expected from Dharma production and it was highly disappointing.
Speaking about performances, versatile Kajol once again proved that she is undefeatable. Her facial expressions, emotions seem very real. She has well performed the sad phase in the movie. Kareena Kapoor was equally powerful. She very well matched up to Kajol’s prowess. Arjun Rampal was equally promising. He portrayed his character with efficient.
In the nutshell, ‘We Are Family’ is an interesting subject which is something to be enjoyed with family. Two beautiful and extremely talented actresses and a handsome dude scorch the silver screen. Worth watching.

Aishwarya blows the cigar!

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan at IIFA Awards 2006 in DubaiAishwarya Rai Bachchan at IIFA Awards 2006 in DubaiDon’t draw any wrong conclusion with the headline. It is correct that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was caught smoking but not in real. She flips the puff on the set of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Guzaarish’. A scene in thefilm requires Ash to blow the cigar and she being a first timer performed the scene with full perfection.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was shown blowing the butt in the promo. The most controversial promo was supposed to go on air with the film, ‘We Are Family’ but things did not fall in place and now Sanjay Leela Bhansali has decided to air the promo with Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor starrer, ‘Anjaana Anjaani’ on September 24. Sanjay is little tensed as how the audience will react on seeing their favorite actress blowing the butt.
According to reports, Ash was not actually smoking in the film but the scene was so beautifully shot that it looks like she is actually flipping the butt.
A source close to the actress informs, “Aishwarya is not really smoking in Guzaarish. It`s a very cute, funny and a very beautiful sequence where she is trying to smoke when she doesn`t know how to”.
In the film, Ash plays a married nurse who looks after paralytic Hrithik and at the end, they develop a relationship.

Introducing Kangana Ranaut as an Interpol Cop

Bollywood Gossips: She's arrives at a five-star hotel coffee shop dressed casually in a pair of a skin-fitting blue jeans and a matching     blouse. Her curly hair and her large, forever-searching-for-something-brown-eyes give her the quality of a child-woman. Kangana Ranaut is an interesting mix of innocence and equanimity.
Life is currently “very good” to her. Her slate is choc-o-bloc. Post the super-success of Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai for which she won accolades for her role as a yesteryear actress, it’s raining films and assorted roles in her backyard. Says Kangana, “I don’t think any other actress in Bollywood has as many films as I do.” But, hello, she is not being immodest.
In the next six months she has four films slated for the marquee. And unlike many actresses who are content to be typecast, Kangana is fortunate to have a wide array of roles to bite into. In October she’ll be in Sohail Maklai’s racy thriller Knockout with Sanjay Dutt and Irrfan Khan where she plays a journalist. Then there’s Tanu weds Manu where she plays a wannabe girl from small town Kanpur. But, of course, the high point of her career is producers Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar’s Game where this 23-year-old plays an Interpol officer.
“It is by far the most difficult role I’ve attempted,” says Kangana. “It was challenging to prepare for this role of a British girl from London who is actually quite like a man in many ways,” she says. The reason why she found this role so hard to prepare for is because she had no reference point of a girl who has stayed in London and speaks with a Brit accent. Having said that, the mountain beauty drops a bomb. She confesses that she has seen precisely sexi-seven Hollywood films in her entire life, and around 25 odd Bollywood films.
“So it wasn’t as if I knew a lot about FBI agents or CIA officials,” she points out. “And officers on special duty in our Hindi cinema are very different from their foreign counterparts. Abhinay Deo, the director of Game, helped me a lot by breaking the role down for me so I could interpret it correctly.”
Kangana says Excel Entertainment (Ritesh and Farhan) were actually toying with the idea of getting a guy for this role. “However, they felt that a guy chasing a guy thing didn’t have that much of a novelty, so they changed it and I’m fortunate that they got me to do the role instead. I had to make sure that I got the body language perfect. There is nothing romantic or sensual about this Interpol officer. Yet my director didn’t want to go overboard with the stiffness and appear like too masculine. Believe me, it was a challenge. And Game is a film that I just enjoyed preparing for. It’s a never-been-seen before character as far as Bollywood goes.”
It doesn’t stop there. While her contemporaries are falling over each other trying to grab films, Kangana‘s booked way for the next year having signed on Priyadarshan’s Hindi adaptation of the Bullet Train; Indra Kumar’s comedy Double Dhamaal; David Dhawan’s Rascals; and, a film with debutant Chiraag Paswan. “Then I have been reading scripts and considering a few more projects. But now dates are an issue because I have signed on a lot of films and all are good,” she shrugs. What does one say? Get ready for a Kangana Ranaut film festival. For her the game has just begun.

‘Dabangg’ song rocks chart

Bollywood Gossip: Certainly the upcoming Eid release, DABANGG owes a lot of its huge buzz and hype to one number, “Munni Badnam Hui”, composed by Lalit Pandit (of Jatin-Lalit fame). The song, as we had already predicted, is scorching the charts and is rocking India, especially the hinterland.
However, we are not here to tell you what you already know but to give you an insight into the two main voices behind the super-hit number, Aishwarya Nigam and Mamta Sharma.
As far as the male singer Aishwarya Nigam is concerned, he is a known name as he is the winner of television music talent hunt, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and has sung a few numbers earlier too, the most prominent amongst them being “O Sikander” for Madhur Bhandarkar’s CORPORATE. Aishwarya Nigam belongs to Muzaffarpur, the birthplace of Lord Mahavira (Vaishali-Muzaffarpur) and land of luscious Leechees.
For the other singer Mamta this is her debut song in Hindi. Mamta is from Gwalior, the land of Maharajas, the Scindia dynasty and forts and is a self trained singer who can sing in eleven languages.
As can be gauged, both the singers, Aishwarya and Mamta are relatively unknown and from places that are far off (literally) from Bollywood, but have made it via their hard work and talent and here is hoping that like them other singers with small beginings too get the opportunity to make a mark in Bollywood .

Shahrukh and kids obsessed towards tattoo

Bollywood Gossip: Seems like Bollywood’s King Khan has been bitten by the tattoo bug! In what looks like a sublime photo shoot, SRK (Shahrukh Khan) allowed his two kids-Aryan and Suhana to pose with him in a pic which has style and panache written all over it. The notable thing is the tattoos that adorn their bodies, even the kids’. Shah Rukh Khan clad in pristine white, holds his forte but it’s his son Aryan who grabs maximum eyeballs. Topless, with a fiery look in his eyes, he is all attitude and charisma.

His sister Suhana looks innocent and sweet with a beautiful side glance. Shah Rukh Khan has posted the pic on a micro-blogging page to show it to his thousands of followers. He explains, “Just did an on the spot foto gig with kids & me as sci fi meets twilight meets aliens. henna design by ash kumar pics by avinash gowarikar,” wrote Shah Rukh Khan.“Log on…will post them in a few minutes…as soon as i get them off the flash drive…too much fun…kids look so beautiful..masha allah.”

I’m not getting married says Genelia D’Souza

Bollywood Gossip: Genelia D’Souza is upset with rumours of her wedding with actor Riteish Deshmukh. The actress says she isn’t getting married to anyone for the time being.

“To set the record straight, I am not getting married to anyone. I have always maintained that my personal life is not something I would like to discuss. But this time since it was something that would affect my family, I decided to take a stand,” said Genelia in a statement released here Tuesday.

“My films and my brands are my priority as of now and I’d like to keep it that way. And if I do decide to settle down, you will hear it from me when as and when it happens,” she added.

A tabloid had reported the romance brewed between Genelia and Riteish on the sets of Tujhe Meri Kasam (2003) and that they are planning to get married this year.

“It’s rather funny that we have to read about the progress in our lives in the press before we even know it ourselves. I wonder how news like that can be put out without any confirmation from the people whose lives are being discussed,” she said.

Genelia is right now looking forward to the release of Chance Pe Dance. She is paired with Shahid Kapoor in the film, which is releasing on Jan 15.
